2022-02-23

On 12 and 15 October 2015, Juerg Trueb, Head Environmental & Commodity Markets, and Yuanyong Long, Originator of Weather & Energy of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, met journalists with two leading business and trade media, the International Finance News and China Energy News, to share our experience in managing weather risks for the energy sector in China.

During the interviews, Juerg and Yuanyong shared how Swiss Re Corporate Solutions protects power companies from adverse weather impacts and our global experience in managing weather risks.

"Swiss Re Corporate Solutions provides a wide range of risk transfer solutions for the power and energy sector, helping clients reduce cash flow volatility risks associated with renewable energy and new energy-efficient technologies", explained Juerg Trueb at the interviews. He added that these solutions cover risks along the value chain of a typical energy project, including specific construction and engineering risks. Such solutions are part of a risk management framework for renewable energy projects allowing investors to become comfortable in investing in such projects.

Juerg pointed out that sustainable energy was key to climate mitigation. "Swiss Re has know-how and insights into future energy scenarios, and a globally diversified portfolio which can absorb losses in specific countries and regions. Our knowledge of future energy scenarios can support governments in regulatory and investment-related decision-making. We are a leader in de-risking investments in renewable and lower carbon energy assets and provide risk transfer solutions along the whole value chain in the sustainable energy sector."

Yuanyong shared our most recent case, a wind power generation index solution, which effectively reduced the risk exposure for local developers, owners and investors by paying out almost RMB 800 000, or 260% of the premium paid, in compensation during a weak wind period in 2014.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions China aims at strengthening our thought leadership in the new and renewable energy sector. The interviews help to share our expertise with a wider audience.
